Today’s shocking incident in which several people were run down by a car at the victory parade for Liverpool FC has been confirmed as not treated as being terrorism.
Jenny Sims, the Assistant Chief Constable, has confirmed that while ‘extensive’ police investigations were ongoing into the incident, they were not currently looking for anyone else related to the incident.
Dave Kitchin from North West Ambulance Services confirmed the numbers of injured, saying that 47 total were injured because of the incident.
20 were treated on the scene and did not need to be taken to hospital, however 27 were hurt to the extent that they needed to be taken to hospital. They confirmed that of these, two were seriously injured.
Kitchin also stated that four children were amongst the 27 taken to hospital, with one of the two seriously injured being a child.
At this time there have been no fatalities as a result of the incident.
53-year-old-man arrested by police at the scene
It was confirmed earlier today by Merseyside police that a 53-year-old British man had been arrested at the scene on Water Street.
Though footage has begun circulating on social media of the incident, Sims asked that people do not share this,

Jenny Sims said at the news conference: "“The car stopped at the scene and a 53-year-old white, British man from the Liverpool area was arrested. We believe him to be the driver of the vehicle.
“Extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision, and it is vital that people do not speculate or spread misinformation on social media. I know that people will understandably be concerned by what has happened tonight.
“What I can tell you is that we believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism.”
Keir Starmer and Liverpool FC respond to scenes at trophy parade
Keir Starmer released a statement following the incident, saying: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.
"I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.
“I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”
Liverpool FC also released a statement in response to the incident, saying: "Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.
We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.
