Netflix has added a brand-new British crime drama, and fans are already demanding a second season of the show before it’s been out a week.

Whilst you would normally associate thrilling British detective dramas with ITV or the BBC, this newest show manages to evoke all the same feelings – but is available to watch on the most popular streaming service in the world, Netflix.

The series stars Matthew Goode in an against-type role for the English actor, playing DCI Morck, a detective in Scotland who is put in charge of a new cold case department.

Created by Queen’s Gambit creator Scott Frank, we spoke exclusively to Frank about the possibility of a season two for the TV series called Dept Q.

What is Dept Q about and how have critics and viewers reacted?

The series, based on a Danish book series, follows an underfunded police department tasked with handling cold cases, with a particular focus on one case: a prosecutor who has disappeared.

At the same time, there is an underlying mystery throughout the season in which Morck and two other detectives were shot whilst investigating a crime scene, leaving one dead and another paralysed.

The show has been met with widespread praise, with an 82 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.3 on IMDb at the time of writing.

Fans on social media have been loving it too, with some already calling for a season two of the series.

One tweeted about the show, saying: “Just finished. One of the best shows I’ve watched in the last 10 years. Just f*cking phenomenal acting and dialogue. Loved every second of it.”

Another took to the Netflix Bangers Facebook group, calling it the ‘best thing on Netflix’.

A third tweeted calling Matthew Goode’s acting ‘next level’ before saying: “I hope they make season 2 of this series.”

What did Dept Q’s creator say when asked about a possible season 2?

In an exclusive interview with LADbible, we asked showrunner Scott Frank about a potential season two of the series, and he was open to the idea.

Frank said: "I just think people have to watch it in significant enough numbers that it's worth it to do another season, even for me.

"I mean, I would love to do another season, but if people you know don't watch it, then I can take the hint."

Despite this though, the show's creator signalled that he had a clear vision: "If [viewers] do watch it in significant numbers, then it would be fun to do the next book, which I already have in my brain how I'd like to do that."

When asked about whether he'd spoken to star Matthew Goode, Frank said: "Yeah, I've definitely talked to Matthew and producers, but it's really going to be up to the money and up to Netflix."

At the time of writing, Dept Q is the top show on Netflix in the UK and the number two show worldwide, marginally behind Sirens.

Dept Q is available to watch on Netflix now.
