Netflix fans have been left to furiously take to social media after the streamer’s newest show was abruptly removed mid-way through them binging it.

Netflix on occasion do shift around their plans without communicating; the recent Netflix Osama bin Laden documentary was pushed back by a full two months with no explanation given.

What many were likely not expecting is for a TV show to be added to the platform and then just hours later be taken off.

This is exactly what happened with the hit new series Dept Q, made by Scott Frank, the creator of Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit.

Fans furiously took to social media to express their anger after the show was taken down off Netflix the same day as it was released

One tweeted: “Watched the first episode of Dept. Q, closed Netflix to watch a baseball game, pull Netflix back up to turn on Episode 2, and it’s unavailable.

“Only option is to play the trailer and “Remind Me” when it’s available like it hasn’t been released yet. Netflix, what the f**k!?”

Another posted to Reddit saying: “So I started watching Dept Q today (in the US) where all episodes are supposed to be available as of today.

“Get to the end of episode two and it won’t continue, saying I cannot watch it anymore.

“When I go to look up the series all that’s there is the trailer. What????”

A third said: “So I'm watching a new series (Dept Q) that came out today on Netflix, and it suddenly disappeared while watching episode 3.

“I can't find it anymore. Wtf.”

Thankfully the show has been restored to the platform at the time of writing, but so far there is no word as to what caused it to be taken down and put back.

The show follows a missing person case of a Scottish prosecutor (Netflix)

One angry fan reported calling Netflix’s help line and spending hours on the phone before the issue was resolved.

The series, starring Matthew Goode, focuses on a cold case department being set up within a Scottish police force.

A remake of a Danish book series, it also stars Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, and Kate Dickie.

The detective drama, despite the initial hiccup, has been well-loved by fans and critics alike.

The series was given a four star review by Lucy Mangan of The Guardian, saying: “This excellent crime drama is a grimy, gothic treat.

“The performances… are all first rate. (Goode, as the bearded, gaunt, increasingly haunted detective, is the blackly shining centrepiece.) The script is sharp and lean.

“A slightly harrowing treat, but a treat all the same.”

James Jackson of The Times said in his four star review: “Dept. Q may sound generic... but it’s slicker, more expensively done, more visually arresting than your average.”

Dept Q is available to watch on Netflix now (for good this time).
